A woman's viral TikTok video about a unique problem she faces in modern dating has sparked a major online debate. Zoe Marner, a 22-year-old from Montreal, shared her experiences in a video that has gained more than 622,200 views and over 93,000 likes.
Marner explained in her video that she struggles someone with opinions on big issues. "My dating experiences are usually positive, although, I am what some consider picky. I get along with all my dates and sometimes pursue it further, but I find a deep connection to be pretty rare," she told Newsweek
She also says that she often asks her dates about their thoughts on various subjects, from cancel culture to birth order effects. However, she frequently encounters vague responses or a lack of opinion, leaving her disappointed. While Marner doesn't see it as a deal-breaker, she reckons it could spell trouble for any long-term prospects.
The clip struck a chord with viewers, racking up likes and comments by the thousands. Numerous individuals responded to the video, expressing similar difficulties in finding intellectually engaging partners. One commenter stated, "I literally call it only child syndrome," while another added, "Some people just refuse to critically think about anything. It's infuriating honestly."
Not all responses were in agreement, however. Some users suggested that certain topics might be avoided due to their tendency to lead to heated discussions. One commenter noted, "Maybe they don't want to get into those types of conversations because they get heated quickly."
Marner clarified that she's not looking for arguments, but rather hopes to understand the experiences that shape her dates' opinions. Marner's cool with different views; she just wants someone who's up for a good chat about them.
