Colorado professor arrested after wife and infant are found dead

A Colorado professor was arrested after his wife and infant daughter were found dead in Denver. Nicholas Myklebust, 44, an English professor at Regis University, was taken into custody on suspicion of first-degree murder in connection with his wife's death.

According to the Denver Police Department report, on July 29, Myklebust contacted the authorities at approximately 7 a.m. He stated his wife was bleeding on the floor, and their baby daughter was not breathing. When police got to the location, they found the victim clearly exhibiting blunt force injuries. She was taken to a hospital and declared dead later. No apparent injuries were observed on the deceased infant at the location.

The Denver Post, citing an arrest affidavit, reported that Myklebust claimed he discovered his wife and daughter after waking up on the couch. He reportedly informed the authorities that his wife had fallen from a step ladder in the bathroom. However, officials declared that the injuries of the adult victim were "inconsistent with a fall."

Police stated they saw cuts and bruises on Myklebust's fingers and scratches on his neck when they questioned him. Prosecutors told The Denver Post that they found gloves in the machine and a bloody glove was found in the trash.

This incident marks the second infant death in Myklebust's care. According to a representative for the Denver District Attorney's Office, no charges were filed after a child died due to skull fractures in 2021.

For both victims, the Office of the Medical Examiner will ascertain the cause and mode of death. As the inquiry underlines, the Denver District Attorney's Office will decide on official charges.

Myklebust's page has since been removed from Regis University's website. The Denver Police Department stressed that the inquiry is in progress and that further information could surface as the case advances.
